Interview: THE NEEDFUL THINGS

The Needful Things - Interview 3 2010
Hello there The Needful Things, Hello Hilda, I salute you. I hope you all are well. I am so exited bout talking to you all on this new band. So here are some questions for you:
1. Welcome this new band named THE NEEFUL THINGS... so its time for us to know who this band is and which style they are playing and stuff... Letz tell us something about the founding of TNT.
Hilda: We are the best underground supergroup in the world! Haha well that’s what I think anyway. Actually I’m not sure if there are any other underground supergroups so that statement could be pretty accurate by default! Basically we’re a band made up of members of other bands who’ve met / slept / gigged and partied with each other on the road. I’m the singer for Drugdealercheerleader, Laney plays with a zillion bands including The Bulletboys, Teenage Casket Company, The Black Mollys and more! Keef plays with Kitty Hudson, fronts The Dead Identities and is guitar crazy with ‘Brigitte West and the desperate hopefuls’. Oz played in Phluid and Slash Vegas and Xander pounds away in Badaxe aswell as being a super cool DJ for Total Rock amongst other stations.
2. What does the name TNT stand for and who got the idea for the bands name?
Hilda: The Needful Things is actually a really cool Stephen King book and a film (the film has a part for the dude who played emperor Ming in Flash Gordon)! The name has been knocking around for about 10 years and was my lil project after Waterbratz! Split up.
3. What is TNT all about? I read you mostly play songs from all the bands your members are involved with, right? Are you also writing new material for TNT... whats planned?
Hilda: I’m actually hoping to get the tour on tape so that we can release some kind of live album. That’s it for material from us for now but we all write bits and pieces for our ‘day job’ bands so there may be some magic on the road watch this space!
4. You got many concerts already scheduled for May, congratulations! So how did you mange it to get that many gigs in one month... all by yourself or have you already a management booking all this for you? Or is it all by connections the band has got?
Hilda: Yeah we’re doing a 6 date UK tour at the end of May and it’s pretty much been down to me. I’ve done a lot of the booking for Drugdealer over the years so I know some of the promoters and venues quite well. I have to say I didn’t have a clue how they would react to the band but we seem to have started a little buzz and I had no problems booking the shows some places actually biting my hand off for a show. Some places we’ve had to miss out this time like Scotland and Wales but if we go out again I’ll be putting those guys first! You can find out all about the tour via the site www.theneedfulthings.co.uk which is a myspace link. We’re also on that facebook thing!
5. So I am very honoured to help you and the boys with doing little promotions on the new band. So thanks for this! What else have you planned with promotional stuff, merchandise and touring?
Hilda: We have some lil surprises planned. Maybe we’ll sell some stuff online too (if the demand is there) but we’re expecting to have t-shirts, posters, key rings, stickers, badges etc. on the tour plus MAYBE a CD
6. Have you already got positive press critics on the new band in this short time and if so what do they say?
Hilda: They think I’m awesome, handsome and hot! But seriously, there’s been some positive press out there and we’ve done a few interviews. The bigger name press are not on board yet because I’ve not yet approached them BUT if the fans and people like you hassle them and bang on their doors (or electronic (fire)walls) about us then we’re half way there. As ever, we are NOTHING without the music fans
7. Who would you like to collaborate with in the future and why?
Hilda: Well for me there are a few people. I’d like to work with Paul Draper (Mansun), Mark Hudson (Ozzy), Chris Catalyst (Eureka Machines) and my mate Polly (who was in Phluid with Oz). I know people will be thinking ‘WHO?’ but I believe in talent and all those guys have a gift as far as I’m concerned.
8. Well I know that you and Drugdealer Cheerleader toured with The Pleasures from Germany over there.... and so maybe will you tour with them again as TNT?
Hilda: I’d LOVE to. They are so much fun. I actually LOVE Germans and Germany. I’m really not just saying that because of you Suzi but ever since I was a young boy and the German people looked after me and my family during the miners strike in the UK I’ve been a fan. Unfortunately it’s all about co-ordination and Lord and Sensei are out with ‘Lord of the lost’ at the moment doing big things so we’ll see if it comes together. I think I speak for us all when I say that we’re definitely up for any offers bring it on!
9. Which music do you listen to when you have some free time and you are at home or driving the car ?
Hilda: haha probably not what you imagine! I have such eclectic taste! My favourite album at the moment is by a UK band called Siskin very chilled and full of pop hooks. I love them! I listen to stuff like Mansun, Coheed and Cambria, System of a Down, Iron Maiden, Crue, Reel Big Fish, Metallica, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen . I go with moods. ;0)
10. Last but not least: Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Hilda: I just want people to check out the website and the songs, make their own mind up and then to try and make a difference. Apathy can kill bands, but energy, friendship and passion can create so many dreams.. Thanks for caring Suzi you’re one in a million! x
It was a pleasure to talk to you and the boys, thanks for it. I wish you a great weekend and tonz of success with
