Interview: Freak Kitchen (Björn Fryklund)

Hello there Björn? I salute you and I am really proud to have you guy talking with me here. I hope all is good and so here are my questions for you.

1. Please introduce your band Freak Kitchen to us first.

Björn: Tiptop trio from sweden! Started around 1992 with IA , guit voc. Christian Grönlund, bass voc and Joakim Sjöberg, drums voc. who made 4 albums before Ch and J left the band 2000. New drummer, Björn Fryklund and bassplayer Christer Örtefors have made 3 albums so far with the band.

2. Your latest album is out since last september. How long did the recordings take and what is "Land of the Freaks" all about?

Björn: Tha actual drumrecordings took about 3 days and the bass about a week. Still the whole production took around 2 1/2 years this time due to a different approach writing/recordingwise.I came up with the title Land Of The Freaks which says a bit about any land around us at this time. This album is like the last ones before about observations we've made around us. How the world looks like right now from our point of view.

3. Another question I got is: Why did you play only one show in Germany this year? Is there more to come?

Björn: IA's in charge of booking, so maybe he can answer. We've had good connections in France since a long time and were on our way there to make a tour so Germany was kind of on the way this time. We'd love to make a tour in Germany soon. Only to hook up with a good touring company.

4. So you are back in Sweden now and will have another concert in Goethenburg on 9th April. What will FK do after all the shows.... is there time for you to relax or did you have other plans in mind?

Björn: Writing new songs (IA & Chris), hang with our families, work with my students at the musicschool (Björn) .

5. To Björn: From what I see you always play drums bare foot... Well so did you really do this always and what`s the reason for it? Is it more comfortable for you to play bare foot or whats the matter?

Björn: I've always done that because the contact with my instrument is more direct. Except one time in Denmark when I got a 220v electric shock through my body due to some grounding problems. I literarly flew off stage and tore the backdrop down on the way. Hehe, scary. The rest of that gig I did put shoes on.

6. What are you doing at the moment - any musical stuff besides Freak Kitchen?

Björn: I play in 3 other bands and teach drums and bandclass in a musicschool.

7. Are there any Freak Kitchen news you would like and already could share with us?

Björn: We are happy to play together with KISS 20 june on Hellfest. Both me and IA are old fans and they were one of the major reasons we started to play rock.

8. Have you got some little advice for the new bands starting a rock star career these days?

Björn: Take your time and try to be yourself and find your sound. It's of course hard now when everything has to go fast in the business. We're in our 40's and think this is really great and only the beginning.

9. Which bands are you listening to when you are having some days off and when you are at home?

Björn: I only listen to music when I'm on the road. Last time we checked Panzerballett, Dean Martin and Strapping Young Lad. Anything really.

10. Anything you would like to add here?

Björn: Fanpower is the best way to make things happen. Maybe the German fans can help us landing our first (second) tour in your fine country.

Björn I thank you so much for taking your time talking to me and the readers. Was nice to have you here for an interview. I wish you all the best and I hope to see you over here in Germany again soon, you guys reall rock. And it was so cool to meet you all back in February this year! Best wishes, Susi
