Interview: Sins Of America

Hey there Sins of America, I salute you. Its great to have you here on the Interviews with RQ Promotion. I am really happy that i got some glam rock band here because I am really bunches into this kinda music....

1. Please introduce your band to us first. When did the story of SOA begin?

Hey there, thanks for your interest. Sins of America are the sound of rock’s future—a bigger, louder, high-energy group in the vain of the late 80’s early 90’s when music consisted of big chorus, catchy hooks and killer guitar solos. You will always wake up the next morning with a SINS song stuck in your head. The band Features the vocal and guitar talents of Rob Wylde of England’s Teenage Casket Company and more recently was featured as the guitarist for Tigertails frontman Steevi Jaimz. Former bassist for Bostons “Biopop” Evan Deane. Drummer Shawn Vincent and Lead guitarist Chris Kelley, both from L.A’s “Never on Sunday” , “Sister Morphine” and Bostons based “Stars Underground”. It all started when Rob moved to the states and had been in contact with our drummer Shawn. When he got here he started jamming with Shawn and Chris. Things clicked and a chance meeting at a local show brought me in the mix. As soon as I heard then music, I knew this was going to be Boston’s best band.

2. Why did you choose Sins of America for your bands name? Because I really don`t think that you are sinners yourself.....

Then you really don’t know us, do you? We were just kicking around names one day and Shawn had a list he came up with . He was reading it off and as soon as he said SINS OF AMERICA , we knew that was it. It’s just a kick ass name.

3.What’s your band doing at the moment?

Busy busy...we just came off a show opening for DANGEROUS TOYS and next week we head into the studio to record the follow up to our 2008 debut OWN BEST ENEMY, with Producer David Adam Monroe (My Chemical Romance/ The Used/ Yellowcard/ Story Of The Year) We are currently working with TRASHPIT RECORDS from the UK and have also been working closely with Denmark’s SKV clothing line.

4. Congratulations you are now endorsed by SKV Clothing in Denmark, very cool. How did it come to this?

I believe that Rob had met them when he was playing in Sweden with Steevi Jaimz. He gave them a CD and they contacted us the next week. Great guys at SKV, they have treated us very well so far.

5. From what I see you are searching for a record company to release your music... anyone has responded until now? I wish you good luck with it and so this one goes out to all the labels out there... dont miss this chance to sign Sins of America!!!! They are really worth it!

Anyone who has a label please pay attention to that last statement “dont miss this chance to sign Sins of America!!!! They are really worth it!”. We would love to love to get our music out to as many people as possible. We truly believe that we would hit a large audience. Eveytime we play, whether its with punk, hardcore, indie, emo, singer songwriter...we always get the “awe man, i love this type of music. No one is playing this stuff anymore...you guys are amazing” type of response. It’s great. That’s exactly what we want, and we think that’s what the record labels are looking for, a band that can crossover on many different markets. When we finish the first few songs from the next album, we will press a single and start mailing it out to labels. We have a couple of majors labels that are interested and waiting for the single. So the first ones off the press are going directly to them.

6. Well Rob also played for Steevi Jaimz band.... is he still playing for him / working together with him?

Rob went back to England for a while, so it was easy for him to travel back and forth to London to jam. Since he has moved back to the States, I’m sure it would be very expensive to travel to London to play. If Steevi is going to be playing more shows, Rob would be the first one called upon, and if he can, he definitely will be there.

7. Please tell us something about the glam rock scene in Massachusetts... is Glam Rock big over there? And what’s your opinion of Glam rock in the year 2000... ?

Glam rock scene? I wouldn’t exactly call it a scene, more like a small handful of people who are still into that type of music. Boston is a tough crowd to break into, even if you live here. We do better in small towns just outside of Boston. There are few bands that are still keeping it alive, like our friends in DEMONS ALLEY. Since there aren’t many bands like us, we get the opportunities to open up for more well known bands. Glam rock has evolved into something much different than spandex pants and feather boas, so you find lots more bands that cite influences of G’n’R, Poison and Bon Jovi. We just wear our influences on our sleeves and it runs deeper than the billboard top 100 from 1987.

8. You have already played together with bands like White Lion, faster Pussycat and L.A.Guns to name a few.... so I am sure you have some more upcoming gigs playing with some famous boys again... any plans?

There was just talk about playing with legend MICHAEL MONROE from HANOI ROCKS when he comes to the east coast for his solo tour, but we haven’t heard the final word... our fingers are crossed.

9. From what I heard Rob returned to the states so he’s still with SOA ... will he stay in the USA now or did he still do other musical projects? Which other musical projects have you got beside SOA?

Robs home is now USA, so he is here for good From what I know TEENAGE CASKET COMPANY will never truly be over. They have a new single “My best friend is my radio” which is killer. I think it will be on the next TRASHPIT records sampler released this summer. Shawn and Chris have worked on some new material from their former band STARS UNDERGROUND. Our main focus is SINS, so that will always come first. We all have different music in us, and some of it might not fit SINS, so who knows what we have up our sleeves.

10. Which bands do you like best?

That’s is such a tough question, there are so many bands that make up what influences SOA Right now I think it’s safe to say that the BACKYARD BABIES from Sweden are a huge influence. They got the hooks, the looks the attitude and they have been doing it for over 20 years...that’s exactly what we are looking for. Bands like DANGER DANGER, STAR STAR, MARVELOUS 3, VAIN, THE WILDHEARTS will always be a few bands influence us.

11. Anything you would like to add?

“You only got one life to live, so better live it while you can” “LET THE GOODTIMES ROLL!” Check out www.myspace.com/sinsofamerica For all the most up to date info.

Thank you bunches for this interview; it was my pleasure talking to you. I wish you and the band all the best and hope to keep in contact. All best wishes, Susi
