Interview: Vinny Appice

1. Vinny please give a short introduction about youself. How would you describe yourself in 2 sentences?

Vinny: I would say passionate with the things I like to do, drums, music. I am very down to earth and love being on planet Earth.

3. What inspired you to play drums and what were your favorite bands at the time you started playing?

Vinny: My older brother Carmine inspired me because I was a kid watching hes carreer and I wanted to do the same thing. I listen to Zep, Hendrix, Blue Cheer, Billy Cobham, Buddy Rich.

4. How would you describe your drum style?

Vinny: Powerful with technique , I play very musical or I try too.

5. What are you doing at the moment?

Vinny: I have a new band called Kill Devil Hill - Rex Brown (Pantera/Down) on bass, Mark Zavon on guitar. Dewy Bragg on vocals, its a cross between Alice in Chains, Sabbath and a bit of Zep. Cd will be out in the fall.

6. I read that you played with BIG NOIZE in California this January. So how were the reactions of the fans? Did many come out to see you play?

Vinny: Yes , thats a fun projetc with Joe Lynn Turner on vocs, Carlos Cavazo -guits and Phil Soussan on bass, we packed the place in LA and kicked ass then the next day flew to Brazil to play on a 3 day rock cruise. We play all the history of bands we have been in. http://bignoizemusic.com/

7. Have you planned to do some drum clinics this year? Are many people going to such drum clinics over there in the USA?

Vinny: I love teaching and doing clinics, I will be doing clinics for DDrums this year. Yes people like to see these because they see you up close and get a real insight on my drumming and attitude.

8. Are you planning to record new music with one of your projects?

Vinny: Kill Devil Hill in the summer, due out in the fall 2011.

9. It`s been nearly a year now and we all are so sorry on the loss of your good friend Mr. Ronnie James Dio. Me and my readers sending all best wishes to you the closest friends and family. I know you and we all miss him so very much. Do you want to share a story of Ronnie with all of us?

Vinny: There are too many stories over the past 30 years we have been together. We have been so many places, hotels, stages, dressing rooms, restaurants, cars, buses, airplanes, bars, bars and bars together! He was my teacher, leader, brother and friend, I miss him so and I really miss seeing him in front of me singing his heart out.

10. Did you ever think about stop playing and making music after Ronnies passing?

Vinny: Never, I thought the opposite, this is all for him now, he has stepped aside and is pointing the way for me to continue to kick ass and to play the classic songs they way they should be played and create new music.

11. Last but not least, please leave some final sentences for your fans!

Vinny: Just a big thanks to all the fans for listening to all the music all these years and letting us do what we live to do, play music!
